Chief Executive Officer Tom Luhnow is a native of San Diego who returned in 2009 after serving 12 years as executive director of Flying House Productions (FHP), home of the Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus. SMC is the largest gay men’s chorus in the world. While working at FHP, he expanded the organization’s fundraising efforts and was instrumental in their starting the women’s chorus. Prior to joining FHP, Tom ran a small nonprofit in Washington, D.C., dedicated to overturning the Fairness Doctrine, a policy of the Federal Communications Commission that required holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance in a balanced manner. Opponents to the policy argued that it was a violation of First Amendment rights, and the policy was dismantled in 1987. Tom is also a co-founder of Forty Plus of Puget Sound, through which he trained hundreds of unemployed executives and professionals in the skills of returning to work at a time when few resources were available. Prior to that, Tom worked in management positions at Safeco Insurance in California, Illinois and Seattle. He is a graduate of San Diego State University (B.S. Marketing, 1967). He and his partner of 30 years, Robert Reed, live in Talmadge.
